Keep It Real: DNA Protects Martin Guitars
Martin Guitars has announced it will now use technology from Applied DNA Sciences to protect itself and consumers from the growing problem of counterfeit guitars. Anti-counterfeiting technology specialist Applied DNA Sciences will provide a unique botanical DNA, which cannot be copied or transferred, to mark and authenticate products. The DNA markers can be applied through ink, or another carrier, to packaging and even directly on the guitars, providing a forensic chain of evidence that can even be used to help prosecute perpetrators.
“People around the world know the high level of quality that is inherent in each and every guitar that features the C. F. Martin logo, and protecting our intellectual property is of vital importance, as we face new counterfeiting-related challenges at home and abroad,” says Chris (C. F.) Martin IV, company chair and CEO.
